The one and only sweet potato SHOCHU from the Yanagita brewery. Its production was ceased for 35 years; it was proudly revived in 2013. The sweet potatoes called "KOGANESENGAN" are richly harvested in Southern Kyushu and we use our underground spring water, this is the same spring water we have used for generations and is used in all of our products. Adding hand-made black Koji creates depth of taste, yet the gentle sweetness is attractive with the ladies as well.
The stout body and deeply fragrant aftertaste are created by kuro (black) koji. This is another signature brand of which the richness is reputed among customers as rare in Miyazaki Prefecture from which most shochus are of the easy-to-drink variety.
Uses only Mannenboshi naked barley produced in Ehime Prefecture, the birthplace of the first president of the company, Sugaichi Watanabe. We have realised the founder’s dream of distilling with barley from his hometown. As naked barley distils, a deep flavor bursts forth.
AOKAGE is produced by atmospheric distillation and its characteristics are powerful yet deep with full-bodied aroma and taste. The rich and lasting after-taste is appreciated by “SHOCHU drinkers” , those who feel, “We can enjoy distilled spirits flavor comparative to western spirits”.
Mild sweetness of potato and black tea. A strong, thick aroma. Structured and concentrated flavor that leaves a fragrant, complex finish. Mixing with water enriches the flavor, releasing the sweet, slightly roasted characters of the potato. Mixing with hot water mellows the flavor and creates a well-balanced, rounded taste.
Nuances of citrus emerge from the potato with hints of white peach and lychee. The aroma has slightly toasty accents. Medium-bodied, smooth, and sweet to the taste. Notes of mandarin orange and rice linger pleasantly on the palate.
Refined and fragrant with a mildly sweet aroma of barley. A well-balanced flavor with a caramel nuance that delicately fills the palate. Sweet barley carries the aroma throughout, and leaves a lingering fragrance of roasted grains. Mixing with hot water intensifies the sweetness and brings out its depth, creating harmony with the rich fragrance.
Elegant and intense, with nuances of oak and cigar. Uniquely smooth with a concentrated flavor, with layers of coconut and fragrant barley. Sweetness becomes more pronounced when mixed with water, with various aromas that blend into a pleasant yet complex flavor. Mixing with hot water adds more body to a bouquet of various flavors.
To maximize the barley aroma, it is distilled slowly at a low temperature and thoroughly filtered and matured. This SHOCHU is produced with "Technical guidance by Mr. Fujiharu Yanagita" who created numerous master brewers when he was professor emeritus at the Tokyo University of Agriculture,Brewery Department. This SHOCHU has been produced over several generations and is the forerunner of "Barley SHOCHU" . This is our leading SHOCHU and is popular with spirit lovers not familiar with SHOCHU due to the fruity sweet aroma and mild taste.
